The Abhar story


Led by successful entrepreneur Hossein Kolahi, a consortium of businessmen come together to embark on one of the most ambitious projects ever to have been conceived in post-revolutionary Iran; the establishment of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Having purchased 54 hectares of land in the outskirts of the city of Abhar, they begin utilising world-class manufacturing techniques to produce specialised cables for key economic sectors including Iran’s vast hydrocarbon industry. In 1992, Abhar Wire & Cable is officially established. Work commences on Phase One of its production line.


Equipped with the most advanced technologies and highly sophisticated automated production lines, new and unique in the Middle East, the company begins production and distribution of high-end cables with specifications suitable for export markets.


Abhar produces the first Lead Sheathed Cable in the Middle East and North Africa region.


Abhar expands its capability by commencing construction of Iran’s first ever High Voltage Cable manufacturing facility. The inaugural ceremony is attended by then Iranian President Mr. Hashemi-Rafsanjani. Abhar receives its first ISO certification from GLC Germany.


Abhar releases the first of its Fire Resistant Zero Halogen cables.


Abhar produces Iran’s first signalling cables for use in national rail projects as well as the $3bn Tehran Metro, supplying in excess of 150 km of signalling cables for the project.


Mr. Cyrus Sherafat, CEO, becomes Executive Chairman of Abhar Cable following the untimely passing of Mr. Hossein Kolahi.


The first 132kV cable in Iran is produced by Abhar, for use in major national projects.


Abhar is awarded the KEMA accreditation by DNV GL in The Netherlands, celebrating the world-class quality of its cables and manufacturing process.


Alireza Kolahi assumes leadership of the company.


Abhar begins export of High Voltage cables to Iraq, Armenia and Uzbekistan, establishing itself as the largest manufacturer of High Voltage wires and cables in the region.


Abhar supplies cables for the biggest, most comprehensive oil and gas project in the Middle East and North Africa region. PGSOC


Abhar is named the best exporter in Iran. The company receives an appreciation plaque and letter from the Presidential Organization for becoming the Iranian manufacturer to bring the highest amount of foreign currency to the country.


Abhar produces innovative, corrugated cables. These are designed to be laid directly underground, removing the need to undergo costly, time-consuming tunnelling work.

Looking to the future

Abhar are committed to innovation. The research and development team are currently working on an expansive series of instrument cables, as well as dedicated cables for the automotive industry.
